About Me

Autobiography

From a young age, I was always moving from place to place. My family stayed together, but various personal reasons caused us to move a lot. We always had a lot of pets with us, which turned into the joke about our house being a jungle or zoo. It also helped make me an animal person and learn to adapt to any environment that I was in. I think it also helped me be a little open minded about the different people that I meet. Although I’ve had the chance to meet and get to know many people, my family all leaning toward the introverted side and preferring to be by themselves transferred to me. I’ve also taken up many interests.

I have always thought that it was interesting learning about different people and what their story is, though I don’t know if that’s due to moving a lot. This does mean that I have picked up different interests from different people. I would always be running around with the friends I made in elementary and my siblings did sports, which led to me liking sports as well (primarily sports that included running). The friends I made in middle school liked volleyball, K-pop, and dance, which I picked up an interest in. Having gained an interest in anime and K-pop and having Asian friends led to me having an interest in Asian culture in general, which spread to other cultures. This then turned into an interest in learning other languages.

There are some interests that I developed on my own. For example, I have an interest in law enforcement as a career. I also like reading and creative writing. I got into art on my own, as well. This interest in the arts is what I’m currently pursuing in a career and what guided my major of choice for college.

Artist Biography

Art has always been an on and off type of thing to me for most of my life. I used to color in coloring books a lot when I was young and loved the various activities in those books; for example, the connect the dots or color by number. Since I had and still do have many interests, art was never the only thing I focused on and often took the backburner when I had other things I wanted to do. I never actually stopped doing something related to the arts, though. In 4th and 5th grade, I would go to an arts and crafts “club” after school whenever they met up. When I was in middle school, I took an art class for both 7th and 8th grade, which helped me want to create again. That was also when I picked up other interests that still influence me today. In high school, drawing went back to a here and there thing as time went on. That was also when I decided to try digital art and touch on animation. My last year of high school, I took a multimedia class and focused on graphic design. It was a fun class and helped me decide to try to pursue something in the arts. I also did choir starting in elementary, but stopped in middle school and did it again for the first year of high school. I always did sing to the radio, too, which I still do now.

Even though art was always an on and off thing, I knew that I liked it better when it related to something I liked. That’s exactly how I create my art, but the design of things I didn’t consciously think about until I took a graphic design class. I usually only thought about how to make something look good but not that it was designing. I would use the themes in google slides and organize information and pictures for presentations, but I didn’t really think of it as designing; just doing what I should be doing. I never really thought about how other people made and designed their art or logos, either. As I took the graphic design class and had to make logos and an infographic, I realized that designing was something that I was interested in and had done. Since I had more of an interest in the arts than in academics, I figured that I’ll continue and try to pursue a career out of it.

Artist Influence

One of my artistic influences would be Drawfee. They are a Youtube show where artists create drawings in Photoshop based on ideas/suggestions of their fans. They start each video with “Welcome to Drawfee where we turn dumb ideas into even dumber drawings!” and end them by saying sorry. The main cast is Karina, Jacob, Nathan, and Julia. They tend to have a cartoony/animeish style, but still have different styles from each other. They also have a very casual environment and often incorporate humor in their videos. They either draw as they’re recording, or they show a speedpaint of what they did prior to the recording session, too.

I would say that they’re an artistic influence for me since I like their art and have gotten some ideas from them. For example, they did an episode where they drew poses based on a random pose generator (above). Since I’ve seen that video, I’ve used the generator from time to time and started following them. I also like how casual they are and the ideas that they do. I also like seeing how each can interpret the same prompt differently. I like seeing how they get to the finished drawing, as well.
