What is Art?

The many different ways that people described art always made sense to me. The different views that people had on it, and the first thought of drawings, painting, what is stereotypically considered art. Although art is a very broad term for the many types of creations that people make, there are two main ways that I see art; as a way to express oneself and as a tool.

Art being a way to express oneself helps explain the many different ways it’s created. The many different mediums for different people to express themselves as they see fit. That can be with painting, drawing, animating, dancing, and many other things. It also helps with those who get bored with only doing things one way. The many different styles are for the different ways that people see and think about the world. If they would rather simplify things or look at every detail. If they like things to be more lively or like something dark. It reflects their interests and emotions, as well. It can be good for those who just need an outlet to let their mind wonder, but it can also be frustrating when perfectionism takes over. It can involve a lot of creativity that leads to an intricate design or just a simple design that no one thinks twice about. No matter how someone chooses to use it, art is also a tool.

Art can be used to invoke a certain emotion. It can be satisfying or off-putting. It can make you think and question the things around you. It makes life a little less boring, too. It adds color and life to a world that can be dull and dark. It can be informative whether it’s paired with information or not. It can help show and reflect a culture or time period just based on the medium or style used, or it can help convey information in a simple way in things such as infographics.

Regardless of the intentions behind the artwork, it always seems to fall into the two categories of expressing oneself and a tool. The more personal works seem to be more for expressing oneself while other works are meant to convey some sort of message. Someone can express themself when trying to get a message across while using art as a tool to do so, too.
